LSU-Alabama NCAA Football Live Blog

Former LSU pitcher Brian Wilson

Hello everyone,

It’s the Cajun Tomato here. I’m coming to you live from rainy and cold Portland, Ore. We’re about a half hour from the start of the LSU-Alabama game. You might have heard about it.

LSU is No. 1 in the BCS. Alabama is No. 2. Most pundits are picking with Alabama, largely because of their defense, the presence of RB Trent Richardson, and homefield advantage.

You can read my keys to the game here.

Saints-Colts NFL Week 7 Live Blog

Who Dat everyone,

Cajun Tomato, present.

In a few minutes the 4-2 New Orleans Saints will host the 0-6 Indianapolis Colts in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Yes, the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

I predict the Saints will christen the newly named stadium with a 33-20 victory to take sole possession of first place in the NFC South. Meanwhile, the Colts will keep pace with the Miami Dolphins in the Suck for Luck Sweepstakes.

Follow along for minute by minute updates! PS: All times are in Pacific Standard Time.

LSU-Florida NCAA Football Live Blog

LSU QB Jarrett Lee

Good afternoon everyone,

It is I, the Cajun Tomato, coming to you live from Portland, Ore. I just ate two egg and ham breakfast sandwiches and am prepared to blog 5,000 words or so about today’s SEC matchup between No. 1 LSU and No. 17 Florida in Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.

The big plotline today should be quarterback play. LSU plans to increase Jordan Jefferson’s role in his second game back after being reinstated onto the team. Meanwhile, Florida is starting freshman Jeff Driskel after starter John Brantley suffered a lower leg injury against Alabama.

Driskel, rivals.com’s top QB prospect from the 2011 class, will have to overcome his own inexperience, LSU’s blindingly fast defense, and the deafening crowd noise in Death Valley. Florida will need to have success in the running game, with speedsters Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey, to have any shot in today’s game.

For LSU, Jefferson and starter Jarrett Lee must protect the football. They must also capitalize when given the opportunity in the vertical passing game. Jefferson will be particularly dangerous in this regard because Florida will expect more of a run-based offense when he enters the game.

My gut tells me LSU wins this game, 31-10. Driskel is due for two or three turnovers today. LSU will convert those turnovers into points, and keep rolling toward its Nov. 5 SEC West battle with Alabama.

Saints-Packers Week 1 Live Blog

Who Dat!

Who Dat everybody!

It is I, the Cajun Tomato, coming to you from the very unbayou-like city of Portland. I am watching my hometown New Orleans Saints take on the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers. Earlier today, I predicted a Saints victory.

I want the Saints to win, but I want Packers cornerback Tramon Williams to do well. Williams and I went to the same high school, Assumption High in Napoleonville.

Let’s kick this baby off!

I am coming to you live from Yur’s Bar and Grill in Northwest Portland. Tonight is my inaugural fantasy football draft since I moved to the Pacific Northwest. I planned to research the draft earlier today. Alas, I did almost no research today. I am winging it. It’s like high school except there’s booze and money involved. So-so bar wi-fi willing I will post about each pick this evening.

LIVE BLOG: Dallas Mavericks-Miami Heat, Game 6

Greetings everybody,
This is the Cajun Tomato coming to you live from Portland, Ore. Tonight I will be live blogging Game 6 of the NBA Finals between the Dallas Mavericks-Miami Heat. I’m picking the Mavs to close out the series tonight.

This series has been nothing short of incredible. Each game has come down to the wire and I expect this one will be no different. Much has been said and written about LeBron James shrinking in the fourth quarter during this series. It will be interesting to see how he responds.

Meanwhile, Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki can cement his place among the NBA’s 20 greatest players with a championship. His scoring prowess is amazing for someone his size. His fourth quarter play in this series (and the playoffs, in general) has been nothing short of extraordinary. He’s outscored James 52-11 during the fourth period. Just incredible.

Let’s get this thing started, shall we? PS: All times in Pacific Standard Time.

LSU-Texas A&M Cotton Bowl Live Blog

Hola from Portland!

In fewer than 10 minutes, the 2011 Cotton Bowl, matching LSU (10-2) against Texas A&M (9-3), will kick off. Texas A&M is one of the hottest teams in the nation, having won its last six, including wins over Oklahoma and Nebraska. LSU is one of the nation’s most enigmatic teams, performing a high wire act that nearly resulted in disaster several times. But alas, a victory today would give the Tigers’ 11 wins on the season. None too shabby.

The key to today’s game for LSU, as I see it, will be gaining four to five yards on the ground on first down. If quarterback Jordan Jefferson has to pick up 3rd-and-7′s or 3rd-and-8′s with his arm, the Tigers offense will be in for a long day. LSU got great news earlier this week when they learned 1,000-yard rusher Stevan Ridley, previously ruled ineligible for the Cotton Bowl, will be allowed to play.

Texas A&M will look to air the ball out. The Aggies have two strong wide receivers in Jeff Fuller (65 catches, 983 yards, 12 touchdowns) and Ryan Swope (67 catches, 780 yards, four touchdowns), who will test LSU’s secondary. Fortunately for the Tigers that is one of their best units. It should be a good matchup.

I predict LSU will defeat Texas A&M, 30-24, in a back and forth battle. The Tigers need either a special teams or defensive touchdown, possibly from All-American cornerback/punt returner Patrick Peterson, who will most likely be playing his last game in a purple and gold uniform.

Continue refreshing throughout the game for my up-to-the-minute thoughts about the game. Guest blogger Ben Lundin also plans to add his two cents in. Expect Jordan Jefferson bashing from him.

3 …. 2 … 1 …. Let’s geaux Tigers!
