Coachella 2012 Recap (Sunday Edition)

Seriously, y'all!

One of the best things I witnessed during Coachella was a note taped to a smoothie stand’s tip jar asking the customer to pay if they wanted a Notorious B.I.G. hologram.

Sadly, Biggie Smalls did not come back to hypnotize Coachella’s audience. I wonder what the talking heads would have said if he and Tupac’s hologram had battled on stage. That would have been a Coachella moment for the ages.
My head might have exploded.

I should not be too greedy though. Sunday delivered incredible performance after incredible performance, plus the aforementioned ‘Pac hologram. Not to mention the blueberry smoothie I had tasted exquisite in the Indio inferno. Maybe my $1 tip will go to a Biggie hologram at Coachella 2013. One can dream.

Below are recaps of the performances I witnessed during the final day of Coachella’s second weekend. Be sure to also read my Saturday recap and Friday recap.

At The Drive-In Reunion Cause For Celebration

The pride of Hell Paso

A decade after it first caused me to curse under my breath in reverence, At the Drive-In’s performance of “One Armed Scissor” on Late Night With Conan O’Brien remains the standard for which I judge all other late night TV musical performances.

AtD-I’s Conan blitzkrieg left me gasping for air and then gasping for words. It still does. This performance served as a rock’n'roll revelation for people, like me, who never got the opportunity to watch AtD-I live during their first incarnation. What I would have given to have seen them live ….

Scratch that thought. That’s old news. The news?

At the Drive-In reunited this week 11 years after calling it quits following the release of their final album, Relationship of Command. Cue Heavenly post-hardcore angels shouting, moshing and doing whatever else post-hardcore angels do. AtD-I are are on the Coachella bill and hopefully will add other shows soon. C’mon guys … Portland is lovely in the springtime!
