PHOTOS: Bon Iver At Edgefield In Portland

Justin Vernon can belt with the best of 'em.

Tonight, while I was writing about overpriced concerts, I remembered I still had photos from Bon Iver that I never posted on this blog. Thus, here are some photos from that show, taken using my Canon S9100. I admit I like to abuse the custom colors option.

If memory serves, I was seven or eight rows from the stage. I stood on some hipster guy’s towel. I don’t think he was happy. The simple solution for that is don’t bring a towel to a concert where people are going to be standing. Or better yet, don’t lay your towel near the stage. Rock’n'roll is not and never will be a day at the beach.

Here is my review of Bon Iver’s performance at Edgefield, if you’re interested. Also, I will post pictures soon from Charles Bradley’s Bumbershoot performance. I have been sitting on them forever. What an awesome show that was!

Fleet Foxes At Edgefield Ampitheater (Photos)

When I saw Fleet Foxes headline Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago July 16, I was at least 150 feet from the stage and the sun had gone down. I had purchased a new camera only hours earlier and was struggling to figure how best to take photos at night.

My experience taking photos at their show last Sunday at the Edgefield Ampitheater was completely different. First, I was only about 10 rows back. Second, the sun was out for the majority of their show. For those two reasons it was much easier to take photos.

Below are my favorite pictures from the show. PS: Read my review of the show here.

NOTE: Check back later today for more pictures from this show.

While most regions of America have experienced triple-digit heat and drought this summer, Portland and much of the Pacific Northwest inexplicably skipped ahead to fall. It’s like we landed on “Pass Go and Collect $200,” in terms of weather.

On Sunday, I attended Fleet Foxes’ sold-out Edgefield Ampitheater show, amid northern Oregon’s hottest temperatures of 2011. The high flirted with the 90-degree mark, a huge departure from the upper 70′s synonymous with Portland’s summer.

Sunday marked the second time in eight days I witnessed the Seattle-based folk sextet perform their mesmerizing, golden-throated harmonies before thousands in an outdoor setting. Read my thoughts on their headlining set at Pitchfork Music Festival here.

My takeway from the two shows: Fleet Foxes are that rarest of musical animals — a band whose studio recordings and live performances are on an equal plain of excellence.
